LG launched a new device in Korea yesterday. The device, the LG Q9, is a bit of a mix because it manages to combine decent high-level specifications and some unexpected ones in a package that leaves us confused as to why it exists. The Q9 has a 6.1-inch QHD + screen, just what you would expect from a lighthouse. At the top of the screen there is a rectangular notch, very similar to the LG G7. There is also a chin. On the back of the Q9 there is a unique 16 MP sensor, perhaps the first surprising option in a world of phones with two rear cameras. Under the camera and the LED flash there is a fingerprint reader. The selfie is an 8 MP sensor. The Q9 is equipped with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, expandable to 2 TB. The most confusing aspect of the device is the SoC under its hood. The Q9 is equipped with Snapdragon 821, the flagship SoC of Qualcomm, launched in 2016 and visible on devices like the OnePlus 3T. For some reason, this same SoC was the engine of the LG Q8 released in 2017. I have no idea what LG thought here.
In addition, the Q9 has a 3000 mAh battery, LG Boombox speakers, a DAC Quad Hi-Fi configuration and an IP68 system. In fact, I could almost take it for a flagship product without the ridiculous SoC and the exclusive rear camera. Of course, having a single rear camera does not always have to be terrible, but LG has not yet shown the image processing capabilities of Apple, Google or Samsung, and we doubt that the Q9 can maintain its camera department. The complete package will cost buyers 499,400 won, or approximately US $ 450. Speaking of packages, if reading this article has given you an impression of déjà vu, you can rest assured, you have probably seen all this before. The LG Q9 is, for all practical purposes, a renowned LG G7 Fit, aimed at the Korean market.
